Steven L. Flamm, MD is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hepatology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He also serves as the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation. Dr. Flamm is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).

He has served as the Region 7 Representative to the UNOS Liver and Intestine Committee and on the Publication and Practice Guidelines Committees of the AALSD. Dr. Flamm has published widely in the field of hepatic diseases and has spoken both nationally and internationally on many other liver-related topics including viral Hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, hepatic encephalopathy, and liver transplantation. He has an active clinical research program in chronic viral hepatitis (HBV and HCV) and autoimmune hepatitis.

New York City's Center for the Study of Hepatitis C, established in 2000 at The Rockefeller University, Weill Medical College of Cornell University and New York- Presbyterian Hospital, is the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary center dedicated to the study of HCV and hepatic disease in the tri-state area. Initial funding was provided by the Greenberg Medical Research Institute.
Ongoing research depends heavily on grant support from the National Institutes of Health and private donations.

The transplant hepatology fellowship at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City offers year-long advanced clinical training to applicants who have already completed a gastroenterology fellowship.
Mount Sinai's transplant hepatology fellowship was the first to be ACGME-approved in the Northeast and remains the largest such fellowship in the United States.
The program was reaccredited in 2010 by ACGME for the maximum five-and-a-half years.
